Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said on Thursday that the British Consulate in Jerusalem is ending its operations today, noting that the Consul General and 20 diplomats, including the Consul General, will conclude their duties and leave Israel.
Sa'ar added that Israel has allowed the British government to continue operating from the consulate building, within a limited scope of activity and with only 7 diplomats present.
He explained that an agreement was reached to continue dialogue between the two governments, allowing both sides to raise issues of importance to both countries.
Sa'ar confirmed that Israel will not take any further measures under the understandings reached with Britain.
Workers removed signs and plaques from the British Consulate in occupied East Jerusalem last night after Israel ordered its closure by Thursday.
Last month, Israel ordered Britain to close the consulate within 30 days and remove its diplomats, after Britain announced the imposition of sanctions targeting Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, including a trade ban on goods manufactured there.
