From football star to dictator.. Mbappé comments on his image

French star and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé expressed his discomfort regarding satirical AI-generated images that spread across social media during the World Cup, in which he appeared wearing a military uniform or sitting on a throne alongside controversial historical figures, most notably former Soviet leader Joseph Stalin.

In an interview with France Football magazine, Mbappé said the images have a humorous side, but considered that being compared to figures who caused the death and suffering of millions is unsettling.

He added that it is "a mix of mixed emotions," explaining that he realizes the images were created as a joke, but pointed out that they sometimes reflect a lack of political and humanitarian awareness among some people.

Mbappé also spoke about the nickname "Mobutu" given to him by his teammate Ousmane Dembélé, in reference to former leader Mobutu Sese Seko, emphasizing that it is different because Dembélé treats it as merely a joke inspired by social media.
