First title for Poland's Chwalinska.. and Davidovich champion of "Shanghai Tennis"

Polish player Maja Chwalinska, ranked 22nd globally, clinched the first title of her career at the age of 25 after a fierce match in which she succeeded in overcoming a deficit against Britain's Sonay Kartal to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Chwalinska, who reached the final of the latest edition of Roland Garros, succeeded in securing the match in her favor within two hours and 43 minutes.

Thanks to this victory, Chwalinska will advance on Monday to the 11th position globally, which is the best ranking she has reached in her career.

Chwalinska also became the fourth player to open her title record by winning a 1000-point tournament, which are the most important tournaments in women's competitions after the four Grand Slam tournaments.

Before her, this achievement was reached by Japan's Naomi Osaka (2018 in Indian Wells) and Canadians Bianca Andreescu (2019 in Indian Wells) and Victoria Mboko (2025 in Montreal).

The Polish left-handed player had drawn attention to herself in Paris, where she reached the final despite being outside the top 100 global players list, and her qualification then came through the qualifiers.

In Wuhan, Chwalinska made only her fourth appearance in the main draws of WTA 1000-point tournaments, a category of tournaments in which she had never previously passed the third round.

As for Kartal, who had previously entered the top 50 list and reached the quarter-finals of a 1000-point tournament in Beijing in 2025, she failed to collect the second title of her career, two years after winning the Monastir tournament in Tunisia on hard courts (250 points).

The British player had been away from the yellow ball courts for more than six months due to a back injury, and did not return until late last September.

Shanghai Tournament

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, ranked 26th globally, won the Shanghai Masters 1000-point title by defeating Rafael Jodar (13) with a score of 1-6, 7-6 (5-7), and 6-4 in an all-Spanish final.

Davidovich, at the age of 27, was crowned with his first Masters title, which is the most important in his professional career.

The Malaga-born player had previously won his first two ATP titles earlier this year, in Mallorca on grass courts and Chengdu on hard courts, but he had never won a Masters 1000-point title before Shanghai.

American Ben Shelton benefited from Davidovich's victory to book his seat in the season-ending ATP Finals, scheduled to be held in Turin from November 15 to 22.

As for Jodar, 20 years old, he missed the opportunity to enter the top ten globally for the first time, and also missed the chance to surpass three competitors in the race to qualify for the season-ending ATP Finals.

Jodar will retain the ninth position in the "Qualification Race," which is the seasonal ranking that determines the eight players qualifying for the final tournament, behind Russia's Daniil Medvedev, America's Frances Tiafoe, and France's Arthur Fils.
