Epidemic Control calls on insurance companies to include the influenza vaccine in insurance coverage

The head of the National Center for Epidemic Control and Communicable Diseases, Adel Al-Belbeisi, called on insurance companies and the private sector to discuss including the influenza vaccine under the health insurance umbrella, coinciding with the start of the respiratory virus season, which is expected to see an increase in influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections over the coming weeks.

Al-Belbeisi stated that epidemiological data indicates that the influenza and respiratory syncytial virus season usually begins in the 43rd week of the year, while infections continue to rise towards the end of the year and the beginning of the new year.

He explained that vaccines included in the national immunization program are provided free of charge, but the influenza vaccine has not yet been included in the program, stressing the importance of insurance companies and the private sector discussing the possibility of covering it, due to the positive impact this would have on them.
