The President of the Portuguese Football Federation, Pedro Proenca, revealed his position and the views within the national team regarding the return of the legend Cristiano Ronaldo to its ranks, following his crisis with coach Jorge Jesus.
Pedro Proenca confirmed that the Federation, the technical staff, and the players are looking forward to regaining the services of team captain Ronaldo during the next camp.
Proenca said in statements carried by the Portuguese network "RTP": "There is a shared and collective desire to bring back our captain," calling for calm to give all parties a chance to overcome the crisis.
The President of the Federation explained that coach Jorge Jesus expressed his willingness to use Ronaldo again, provided that the player is ready from a sporting point of view, which opens the door for his return to the national team in the coming period.
Proenca emphasized the exceptional status Ronaldo holds in the history of Portuguese football, affirming that the national team captain is one of its most prominent symbols, given what he has achieved throughout his international career.
The President of the Portuguese Football Federation said: "Ronaldo is part of our legacy, and he will always be there as long as the coach wishes," noting that his participation remains linked to readiness and sporting merit.
He added that Ronaldo could have ended his international career after the World Cup, but he preferred to continue playing, driven by his attachment to the Portuguese national team and his desire to continue playing for his country.
Regarding the dispute between Ronaldo and Jesus, Proenca described what happened as a "misunderstanding" that can be contained through dialogue, stressing that the Federation seeks to address the crisis away from media escalation.
He pointed to the strength of the relationship between the two parties, expressing his confidence in the possibility of overcoming the dispute in a way that contributes to restoring stability within the national team and paving the way for the return of its captain to the group.
Regarding the disciplinary measures taken against Ronaldo after he left the national team camp, Proenca explained that the decision on any possible punishment falls within the jurisdiction of the Disciplinary Board, which is responsible for studying the incident and making the appropriate decision.
The President of the Federation confirmed that preparations for the next camp are proceeding, expressing hope that the national team's ranks will be complete and Ronaldo will return to the group in November, if the conditions are right.
