The Executive Office of the Arabian Gulf Cup Football Federation, on Monday, approved the hosting of the 28th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup Football Championship 'Gulf Cup 28' by Iraq, from December 9 to 22, 2028.
This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of the Federation, in the presence of the Executive Office members, on the sidelines of the ongoing 'Gulf Cup 27' in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The hosting file was unanimously decided in favor of Iraq without a competing file, after coordination and efforts with the Gulf federations, while Kuwait was chosen as an alternative country according to the regulatory regulations.
This is the third time Iraq is hosting the Gulf Cup, after the 1979 and 2023 editions, with the last edition held in the country in 2023 in Basra, where the Iraqi team won the title for the fourth time.
The city and stadiums that will host the 'Gulf Cup 28' matches have not yet been determined, as the Iraqi government, in coordination with the Iraqi Football Association, will determine the hosting details at a later stage.
The Executive Office also approved the organization of the 2027 Gulf Olympic Teams Championship by Iraq, to be held in Basra Governorate from March 21 to April 3, 2027.
