Carlos Alcaraz leads a strong Spanish squad in the Davis Cup tennis competition, after captain David Ferrer announced the removal of two players from his national team's roster for the final rounds.
The Spanish squad included Alcaraz, winner of seven Grand Slam titles, alongside Rafael Jodar, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Marcel Granollers, and Pedro Martinez.
Spain last won the Davis Cup title in 2019.
Ferrer said: "We have a very good team, without a doubt."
He continued, "It is clear that we are among the candidates to win the Davis Cup, but that is normal; it is always better to have the best players."
Alcaraz, ranked third in the world, missed four months of the season due to a wrist injury, but returned to competition at the US Open, the last of the four Grand Slams on the Flushing Meadows courts, and then won the Tokyo tournament title early this October.
The final rounds of the competition will be held in the Italian city of Bologna between November 24 and 29.
Spain, the runner-up of the last edition, will open its journey in the quarter-finals by facing Austria, and if it succeeds in qualifying, it will face the winner of the Britain vs. Germany match in the semi-finals.
