Educational expert and consultant Dr. Mohammad Abu Amara said that the use of artificial intelligence tools by school students, led by ChatGPT, has become widespread for solving homework, warning that relying on them to complete assignments instead of learning may weaken students' thinking and problem-solving skills.
During his appearance on the "Nabd Al-Rai" program on Al-Rai radio, Abu Amara explained that the problem does not lie in the use of artificial intelligence itself, but in how it is used, pointing out that students resorting to ChatGPT to obtain ready-made answers prevents them from acquiring the skills that a student is supposed to develop by doing homework.
He indicated that artificial intelligence can be an effective educational tool if used correctly, acting as a "private tutor" that explains to the student, answers their questions, and provides them with more than one way to understand information, rather than doing the homework on their behalf.
Abu Amara called on parents to monitor their children's use of artificial intelligence and not be satisfied with just obtaining high grades, stressing that the primary goal of education is to build skills, knowledge, and the ability to think and solve problems.
He also called on teachers to develop teaching and assessment methods that suit the era of artificial intelligence, noting the importance of relying on projects, research, and oral presentations, which makes the student a participant in the learning process and makes it difficult for them to simply copy a ready-made answer from artificial intelligence tools.
He emphasized that artificial intelligence has become a reality that cannot be ignored, calling for training teachers, parents, and students to use it consciously, and transforming the student from a consumer of information into a researcher and producer of it, which contributes to enhancing their capabilities instead of weakening them.
Abu Amara pointed out that the positive use of artificial intelligence can open new horizons for creativity and innovation for students, calling for guiding them toward employing these technologies in research, learning, and projects that contribute to finding solutions to various challenges.
