Boxer Ishaish eyes Asian Games gold... Today

National boxing team player, Ziyad Ishaish, will compete at 8:00 AM today, Friday, Jordan time, in the under-70 kg final at the Asian Games – Nagoya 2026, where he faces the world champion, Kazakhstan's Turkhan Sabyrkhan.

Ishaish reached the final bout after a series of three consecutive victories, starting with a win over Palestinian Mohammad Issa in the Round of 16, before overcoming Tajikistan's Shamshir Saidov in the quarter-finals, and then defeating Japan's Sewon Okazawa, the champion of the previous edition of the Asian Games, in the semi-finals.

For his part, Sabyrkhan qualified for the final after defeating Qatar's Mohammed Bichi in the Round of 16, then overcoming Iraq's Ali Qasim Hamdan in the quarter-finals, before getting past Uzbekistan's Shavkatjon Boltaev in the semi-finals.

Ishaish, the bronze medalist at the Asian Games – Jakarta 2018, looks forward to continuing his brilliance and claiming the gold medal, which, if achieved, will be the first gold in the history of Jordanian boxing at the Asian Games.

The anticipated showdown carries additional importance, as Ishaish had previously faced Sabyrkhan last April and managed to defeat the world champion back then, and he aims tomorrow to repeat his victory and seal the Asian gold.

Taekwondo journey kicks off today

The participation of the national taekwondo team begins today, Friday, through player Mohammad Al-Adarbeh, who competes in the mixed individual virtual taekwondo event, where he meets Kazakhstan's Rita Bakisheva in the Round of 16.

Virtual taekwondo competitions rely on virtual reality technologies, as players wear special equipment and sensors that capture their physical movements and translate them into performance within a virtual environment, competing by executing taekwondo moves and techniques without direct physical contact, in an experience that combines sport and technology.

Taking part in these competitions are 16 male and female players representing Jordan, Mongolia, Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Hong Kong, India, Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, and Japan.

Player Jaafar Al-Dawood also begins his journey in the under-58 kg category by facing Kyrgyzstan's Alisher Asimbek Uulu in the Round of 16.

Razan Al-Rawashdeh competes in the under-67 kg category, meeting the UAE's Amna Al-Loghani in the Round of 16, while Saleh Al-Sharabaty faces Tajikistan's Aslanbek Fazilov in the same round within the under-80 kg category.

The national team continues its participation tomorrow, Saturday, as Fadia Al-Kharfan starts her journey in the under-57 kg category from the quarter-finals, facing the winner of the match between the Philippines' Baby Jessica Canabal and Cambodia's Julie Mam.

Zaid Mustafa will also meet Afghanistan's Hekmatullah Zain in the Round of 16 of the under-68 kg category, while Rama Abu Al-Rub faces Qatar's Noor Mohammed in the Round of 16 of the over-67 kg category.

In the over-80 kg category, Mohammad Al-Adarbeh meets Japan's Hidenori Ebata in the Round of 16.

The sport of taekwondo has a rich record in the history of Jordanian participations in the Asian Games, as it has not missed any edition since the launch of Jordanian participation in the Seoul Games in 1986, successfully cementing its position over successive participations as one of the most prominent Jordanian sports on the continental stage.

Taekwondo is the sport that has yielded the most medals for Jordan in the history of its participation in the Asian Games, after its male and female players captured 27 medals, consisting of 3 golds, 13 silvers, and 11 bronzes.

Jujitsu appearances continue

The national jujitsu team will continue its appearance tomorrow at the Nagoya Asian Games, with Alaa Al-Din Al-Khazaee and Mahmoud Jaber participating in the under-77 kg category, while Fawaz Haddadin and Yanal Qardan participate in the under-94 kg category.

National team players, Mohammad Oumt and Mahmoud Al-Ghoul, concluded their participation yesterday, Thursday, as Mohammad Oumt began his journey in the tournament by achieving a victory in the Round of 32 bout against Laos player Chindaphone Sivanivilai, before losing in the Round of 16 to South Korea player Joo Seonghyeon, ending his participation in the competitions.

For his part, Mahmoud Al-Ghoul exited the competitions from the Round of 32, after losing to Saudi player Ilyas Banjer.
